'Coach, put me in I'm ready to play,' the President joked at the start of the call. 

'You guys, I know you're the underdog. But I tell you what man, you got some of the best players in the world on your team and you're representing this country and I know you're gonna play your hearts out. So lets go shock 'em all.

'Keep trusting in one another play as hard as you can and you know for you and your families, your teammates and the whole country is rooting for you.'

President Biden is not scheduled to make an appearance in Qatar to watch the team play, but told the players, 'I wish I were there to see you I really do. Go get 'em guys just play your hearts out. I know you will, I know you will.'

The USMNT opens their World Cup group stage against Wales on Monday - after finishing third in CONCACAF qualifying behind Mexico and first place Canada.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter recently named Tyler Adams as the team's captain ahead of the opening of the group stage.
