The Legendary SIG Sauer P210: A Timeless Marvel Reimagined

The SIG Sauer P210, an iconic firearm dating from 1949, breaks into the U.S. market in brand-new and American-made form. This legendary P210 was renowned for its reliability and accuracy, continuing its role as the combat handgun for the Swiss Military for decades. Now, SIG Sauer, Inc. introduces the P210 Standard, a modern iteration that combines heritage from Swiss and German engineering traditions with American ingenuity.

Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Commercial Sales asserted, “The SIG SAUER P210 Standard truly is an engineering marvel. The reverse rail on this pistol gives it precision in accuracy. A thin contour grip and weight balance give it less felt recoil, while the tuned, short trigger press truly makes this one of the finest handguns ever made.”

The P210 Standard features a 9mm hammer-fired pistol with precision-machined stainless steel slides and frames. Iron sights, ergonomic controls improved for feel, relocated manual thumb-safety for easier access, target-grade trigger, custom walnut grips, side magazine release, improved beavertail, and two 8-round magazines round out the package.

The design of the P210 was based on an earlier French Modele 1935A pistol, also developed by Charles Petter. One of its unique features is that the slide rides inside the frame rails, rather than on the outside, which allows for a very tight fit between the frame, slide, and barrel without compromising reliability. This tightness contributes to the pistol’s renowned accuracy.

In 2010, SIG announced an updated design of the P210, manufactured in Germany. It preserves a number of the original features but with modern touches like drop safety and an extended beavertail for comfort and effectiveness. The manual safety has been a turn-off for quite several users.

The P210 has quite a reputation among many shooters. It is attributed to the ability to group five rounds into a circle no larger than 2 inches in diameter at a distance of 50 yards. The accuracy is simply an outcome of attention to detail in the manufacturing process.

Next to the very high price, the P210 comes out as a pretty desirable weapon. Since this firearm does not come into mass production, it’s barely seen below its MSRP of $2,199. Accuracy and craftsmanship make the pistol an investment-worthy for shooters who seek a top-tier 9mm handgun.

However, the P210 has its flaws. First of all, the manual safety lever or what some may call it, ‘difficult’ to allow smooth disengagement; magazines are expensive and hard to fill. The options for aftermarket accessories are also limited, and these are primarily for holsters.

Overall, the SIG Sauer P210 remains an absolute joy to shoot and is an honest-to-goodness tack driver. Phenomenal accuracy and classic design drive this gun to many lists when one needs a super-accurate 9mm pistol. Its price tag is pretty steep, with some quirks in its design, but the performance and heritage of the P210 make this a firearm worth some serious looks by serious enthusiasts.
